Rigs & Goals

Today's session was challenging but productive. I dug into the details early this morning and tackled various concepts.
I ultimately did not make much dent on the problem bugs I've been seeing in the animation blueprint today. I learned a lot, but everything I tried still netted the same result - failure. I love to fail so that I can see why it happened and how I can adjust my approach, sharpen my saw, or seek outside wisdom to inform my next moves.
Today was a good day overall and the effort resulted in the following progress
Created IKRig for modular character mesh
Created IKRig for default UE5 Mannequin
Created IKRetargeter between modular and base mannequins
Added Bone Chains
Added IK Goals
Modified character blueprint to allow only one target at a time
Added isValid check to AC_Outliner_Advanced to prevent errors when exiting gameplay in the editor (is this the right way to solve this problem or does it just hide it ultimately? I'll keep this in my list for future consideration.)
I then turned my sights on a problem that has existed since the start of the game: selecting just one target.
This was a little trickier than I thought but with some help from a suggestion by Hyper on his discord channel I was able to sort through an implementation of single-target logic with outliners and symbols.

A day filled with bug fixes, tutorials, and good conversation with fellow game developers on various fun topics. Hoping to get more done throughout the week. I feel that I am entering a flow state on the progress of the game and things have been going pretty well when I persist through the challenges.
Cheers,
Vince
