Yesterday, I took a break from game development as it was a long day at work.

Tonight I only had a couple of hours to devote so I spent that time implementing the basis of the in-game chat system.

I setup the chat area and implemented ChatGroupsGuilds, a neat little pack created by Defuse Studios that provides the foundation for chatting in the game world. The pack provides many commands out of the box and is a perfect fit for my game. I am sure I will need to extend this system, but the bones are there and I appreciate the creator for taking the time to put something like this together. In my short time tonight I was able to test inviting a networked player to my group and guild via the server and was able to chat in all the channels as expected. I was also able to see the chat replicated to the other player's screen. Lastly, I was able to also setup entering "areas" which allows me to send a message to the player when they enter trigger volumes that denote new areas.

This is all very good news! I will share some examples when I have the UI in place.

During my lunchbreak today I also generated some AI concepts for some different warriors in armor:

While not a huge update today, still decent progress for only 2 hours. I will try to get some more work done tomorrow evening.

Cheers,

Vinny
